Day 14

I spent alot of time this week discussing Nehemiah and his completing the building for the wall in Jerusalem despite opposition. I have decided that for today's blog I would focus on Paul's letters to the Corinthian's Ch 7 & 8.
Now as we know Paul previously sent letters to them that was of a disciplinary nature. In chapter 7 he responded to questions that the followers had about lustful behavior, marriage, etc. Due to the fact that this past week was my first wedding anniversary , I found it quite fitting that the topic of marriage came up. This is how I broke it down.

Marriage is a gift............
Paul is not saying that everyone one should get married. Actually he prefers if we were single like him but the reality is that not everyone can live without a mate. He suggests that if you are lucky enough to find someone that is right for you you should marry them ( as supposed to lusting for them which is a great sin)

Marriage is a ministry........
Both Jon and I are Christian but currently we do not go to church because we have not found the right one for us. We still however study the word together and pray together. If I feel low sometimes, he encourages me through God's word and by praying together and vice versa for him. It is only through our faith in God and understanding of his word that we are able to function daily. Paul discusses in verses 10-16 that when at least one of the spouses is a Christian, they bring holiness to the marriage.

Marriage is a challenge.......
The time that you share with your mate you have ups and downs that you must face together.

My final word on this subject can be summed up this way." Success in marriage involves much more than finding the right mate. It also requires being the right mate.

I dedicate this blog message to my husband, Jon to whom I re-commit to everyday my love , honor and devotion to you. I love you.

Nehemiah 5:14-7:73a KJV NLT

1 Corinthians 8:1-13 KJV NLT

The human conscience is what makes us different from the rest of the animal kingdom. It drives us as human beings. As a person studies the word , they gain knowledge and this knowledge strengthn our conscience. The knowledge you gain, should be use as a tool to help build people up as supposed to shaming them and taring them down.

Psalm 33:1-11 KJV NLT
Passage Psalm 33:1-11:

Psalm 33

1Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.

2Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.

3Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.

4For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

5He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

6By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

7He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.

8Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

9For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

10The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.

11The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

Proverbs 21:8-10 KJV NLT
Passage Proverbs 21:8-10:

8The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.

9It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

10The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.

  1. This was special! So glad to hear that it is the desire of both of you to walk together with the Lord. After 35 years, I can attest that there will be many many ups and downs. However, the one constant that we have that we can absolutely depend on is that He never changes and He will always be there for us and to see us through any and all difficulties. His Word says, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose", that means good or bad. Either way, regardless of the situation, He allows it because he has a lesson in it for us and based on His promise, it can only be for our good.
